A meeting with K.P Sadouskai was held in the Committee. More then half a year she served in Gomel penal colony. She was sentenced to two years of imprisonment according to articles 389, 391, 386.
A lawyer by education and vocation she having been on pension, for several years worked in human rights defense organization “Veche”, located in Pskov. She published bulletin “Defender”. She tried to help people in difficult situations and to protect them in courts. She fought a lot for the rights of former concentration camp prisoners because she couldn’t face the facts of not providing them by the state with all necessary benefits such as needed health care, bonuses to pensions. The facts of ignoring the rights of these people by the local authorities made her apply to court and stand for their rights.
In prison she felt the support of people from different countries – Czech Republic, Poland, France. She received lots of letters.
During the meeting she stated that in prisons there are lots of people who are serving terms for trumped-up cases. Businessmen are serving by the whole families, not paying attention that younger members often have no connection to their parents’ business. All their property is confiscated. The colony is overcrowded, people die from cardiac and other illnesses. She said that first of all she would pass the course of medical rehabilitation.
