Three months in Belarusian jail
Though arrested in Minsk US citizen Emanuel Zeltser’s health state is disastrous and accusations presented to him are inconsistent, he is still in jail.

Group in Horki, Mahilyow region, said to have collected more than 2,500 signatures against nuclear power plant project
A civil society group in the Horki district, Mahilyow region, has collected more than 2,500 signatures to a petition against the planned construction of a nuclear power plant in Belarus, journalist Eduard Brokaraw, spokesman for the group, told BelaPAN.
Alyaksandr Atroshchankau got 15-day arrest for “contempt of court”

Youth activist of the campaign “European Belarus” Alyaksandr Atroshchankau is arrested for 15 days. He had trial in the Tsentralny district court of Minsk, where he was guarded to at 2.00 pm from the KGB Minsk and Minsk region directorate. He has already been guarded to a special detention center on Akrestin Street for serving punishment.
KGB arrested one more businessman from Lithuania
Gintas Zegeris, a citizen of Lithuania, who carries on business in Belarus, has spent a week in the KGB remand prison in Minsk already. Vice-president of the Belarusian union of entrepreneurs Mikhail Shavelzon was arrested with him.
They were arrested as suspected in being mediators in giving a bribe.
Lyceum graduate left without diploma with honours for oppositional convictions
An activist of the Young Front Zmitser Sakalou, the best graduate of Polatsk Lyceum, has been deprived a diploma with honours for his political convictions.
After the trial for a protest with a banner “Freedom to political prisoners!” in the central square of the city, Polatsk Lyceum was visited by KGB officers, the press-service of the Young Front informs.
Lukashenka deprives Belarusians of EU’s support
Belarus has a real chance to join new programmes of Brussels for Eastern partners, but Lukashenka needs to release political prisoners and carry out free democratic elections for this.

Exam for Belarusian authorities

A technical mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights begins its visit to Minsk with a meeting in the Ministry of Foreign Affaires. Detained for national symbols – tried for “beating a policeman”
A trial over a young activist is to start today in Lahojsk. He was detained for using national symbols during “the Beatles Festival”.
On June 9 at 3 p.m. the trial over Vital Izotau is to start in the court of Lahojsk. Besides, the guy faces criminal responsibility. His case was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office. He is charged with beating a policeman. Other details are unavailable so far.
Demonstration in support of Ivan Shyla to take place in the US
A demonstration in support of Ivan Shyla, a Young Front member, will be held in New York on June 29. On June 4 Ivan Shyla was illegally expelled from Salihorsk secondary school No. 4 the day before his last exam.
The Belarusian Youth movement of the US is the initiator of the rally which is to be held in front of the UN headquarters. In their address to expat Belarusians and “friends of Belarus in the world”, the organisation appeals to “condemn the illegal decision and to influence this situation by all available means,” the BelaPAN informs.
Cold war in Belarusian manner
Belarusian TV continues the cold war, declared by Lukashenka’s regime on the United States of America.
The first channel of the Belarusian TV advertises series Network, which is to begin on 9 June. The authors of the film promise to say about “US plan on Belarus’s occupation and ways of gaining by foreign foundations and public organizations,” Euroradio reports.
It is clear, that shooting a fantastic film is far more safely than speaking about real plans of Russia on turning Belarus into “Northwest Province.”
Anzelika Borys fined almost Br 1.5 mln for concert
Anzelika Borys, head of the unrecognized by the authorities Union of Poles, has been sentenced to a fine of Br 1,400,000 doe organizing a concert of a well-known Polish band “Lombard” in Hrodna.

Today heads of regional branches of the United Civil party and the Belarusian Social Democratic Hramada Yury Istomin and Viktar Sazonau have been fined in Hrodna.
Istomin is to pay 50 basic units (1 mln 759 thousand rubles, or $821), Sazonau – 30 basic units (1 mln 50 thousand rubles, or $469). They stood trial for “active participation in an unsanctioned rally”, Radio Svaboda informs.

Problem of political prisoners in Belarus to be discussed in European Parliament

20 years ago world learnt about mass executions in Belarusian Kurapaty
On 3 June 1988 the Belarusians learnt the truth about Stalin’s repressions in the country through an article “Kurapaty –the Road of Death” in “Litaratura i Mastatstva” newspaper, written by Zyanon Paznyak and Yauhen Shmyhalou. This article also provoked one of the first mass protest action in the USSR – people came to Kurapaty on Dzyady (the day of commemoration of the dead).
Million of signatures for European Union Accession
Activists of the civil campaign “European Belarus” plan to collect a million of signatures of the country citizens in favour of Belarus’ accession to the EU in order to submit them to the European parliament and the Council of Europe.
It is planned to carry out the most active collection of signatures simultaneously with election campaigning. However, even today several dozens thousands of citizens have expressed themselves in favour of the idea of Belarus joining the EU, said one of the participants of the campaign Zmitser Barodnka.
Hungarian ambassador: “I know that EU flag is not always welcomed in Minsk”

The European Commission and the Estonian foreign ministry have promised support to an association of young pro-democratic Belarusians resident abroad.
The European Union’s external relations commissioner, Benita Ferrero-Waldner, has announced this in a letter to the organizers of the Congress of the New Belarusan Diaspora of Europe and the USA that took place in the Estonian capital this past March.
EU flag not tolerated in the center of Europe
During the ceremony of opening “The Geographic center of Europe” memorial sign in Polatsk activists of the Young Front ran up a flag of the EU.
In a few minutes policemen detained a young activist Mikalay Dzemidzenka who was holding the flag. They stroke him down to the ground and twisted arms. A report wasn’t drawn up by the policemen, but the flag was seized.
Authorities to combat internet on model of China
The Ministry of Information of Belarus stands for registration of Internet media. It was said by Liliya Ananich, first deputy minister of information. In her opinion, there’s a problem of “stream of misinformation from foreign sites.” “But there are practices used in China, which blocked the access to the sites on its territory,” Ananich thinks.
Paddy wagons as new amusement for children
On June 1, International Children’s Day, Gorky Park in Minsk “delighted” visitors with a new “fairground attraction” – a paddy wagon.
A real paddy wagon used by Belarusian riot police during crackdown on peaceful demonstrators arrived to the park. People who take to streets to protest against the policy of the state are taken to prisons in these huge armoured trucks produced by Minsk automobile plant.
