Klimau had heart attack in prison
A political prisoner Andrei Klimau told in his letters that on May 21 he had a heart attack in Minsk remand prison No.1. The political prisoner was hospitalized to a Republican prison hospital in Kalvaryjskaya Street in Minsk. Besides, Andrei Klimau wrote that his term in prison was extended for three months.
Why have authorities condescended to the mild sentence for Young Front activists?
Why have the authorities agreed with the light sentence for the Young Front’s activists? What does this step mean in the corridor negotiations with the West ? Do not the authorities wish to make a sort of a step toward the opposition and the civil society ? Criminal Action against Dzyanis Dzyanisau Closed
This fact has been announced by the lawyer of the young activist Pyotr Kavalenka. A criminal action was initiated against Dzyanis Dzyanisau and Tatsyana Elavaya for holding a number of protest rallies in Vitsebsk. They were charged under Article 342 of the Criminal Code (organization of actions which violate public order and counteraction to the authorities). Under this article the guy faces a three-year imprisonment.
Three More Criminal Cases against Oppositionists Dismissed
A criminal actions against opposition activists Alyaksandr Uryuski, Alyaksandra Yasiuk and Natalya Starastsina have been suspended. The investigator needed two months to come to such a conclusion.
Will Andrei Klimau be released?
On June 3 two months will pass since the moment of detention of an opposition leader Andrei Klimau. Law-enforcing agencies are to define a measure of restraint for the politician: is he to be released or to be kept in custody. As we have informed, a few days ago Klimau was placed to a republican clinical hospital because of heart problems.
Prosecutor demands to fine Young Front activists
The public prosecutor has demanded to fine Young Front activists Aleh Korban, Barys Haretski, Nasta Palazhanka and Zmitser Khvedaruk 500 basic units (15,500,000 Belarusian rubles, or $7,242) each. It is obvious that the regime has decided not to exacerbate the situation with the political persecution of young activists. As we have informed, the Young Front leader Zmitser Dashkevich had been sentenced to a year and a half of imprisonment in a minimum-security correctional labor facility.
More than 400 participants take part in rally near court of Savetski district
More than 400 persons have come to the court of Savetski district of Minsk today to express their protest against the trial over the members of the Young Front. People chant oppositional slogans, hold portraits of defendants, streamers “Freedom to Young Front activists!”, “We demand just trial!”, “Where is truth?”, “Let’s defend children from violence!”
One more political prisoner released
On 25th of may a human rights activist Katsyaryna Sadouskaya has been released from Homel women prison. As we have informed, the human rights activist had been sentenced to 2 years of imprisonment in a minimum-security correctional labor facility for a demands to Alyaksandr Lukashenka to undergo mental examination, and for alleged insult of judges.
Attack in BSU Student Quarter
Yesterday’s protest “No to repeal of benefits!” in the campus of the Belarusian State University near Independence Square ended in detention of two persons and attack of two people in mufti on a girl. Her name is Tatsyana Tsishkevich.
During the rally Tatsyana was among the participants. After protesters disbanded, two people in mufti attacked her. As Tatsyana told to the Charter’97 press-center, they started to grab her hands, neck, and tried to drag her somewhere forcibly.
Political prisoners still remain in prisons of Belarus
Today two political prisoners, Mikola Statkevich and Paval Sevyarynets, have been released in Belarus. However, such political and public activists as the Young front leader Zmitser Dashkevich, a former candidate for presidency in Belarus Alyaksnadr Kazulin, an opposition leader Andrei Klimau, a young activist Artur Finkevcih, a human rights activist Katsyaryna Sadouskaya, leaders of entrepreneurs Yury Lyavonau and Mikalay Autukhovich remain imprisoned or a sentenced to restriction of freedom.
